A meditation chair allows for a restful but alert position so there is little danger for you to fall asleep in the middle of you meditation session. Yes, it is alright to fall asleep while meditating but it is a lot better if you stay awake throughout the process.

Choosing The Right Meditation Chair

Most meditation chairs are built to suit specific meditation positions. As a beginner, it would be best for you to choose a meditation pose first before you go out and buy a meditation chair. You may choose any of the three basic positions namely the Burmese, kneeling and the sky or the easy pose. The Burmese or the cross-legged position usually goes well with a meditation cushion than the meditation chair. A lot of people find it quite difficult to sit with their legs crossed in front like a lotus while perched on a meditation chair so if you want to sit the Burmese position, you better get a cushion. On the other hand, if you want to use the knelling or the sky position, the meditation chair is ideal for you.

When using the sky position, make sure that you have a large meditation chair where you can sit comfortably with your knees in the air. A large chair is ideal especially if you have limited flexibility. Always remember that the right size of the meditation chair is very import to help you feel comfortable. On the other hand, if you choose the kneeling position, a smaller chair is ideal. Find a good chair which you can bring along with you if you whenever you want to meditate outdoors.

Is It Alright To Use A Rocking Chair For Meditation?

A lot of meditation teachers do not recommend a rocking chair for meditation. Although rocking chairs can help you relax, the rocking movement of the chair can disturb your breathing and can cause your spine to shift every now and then. Furthermore, the constant rocking can tire your body out in the long run.
